Develop alternatives together in 3D. Move a wall, test a layout, compare an extension. See the possibilities as the conversation develops.
Refine
Develop the ideas that interest you, considering practical construction, likely cost and planning implications. Go as far as suits your ambitions.
Take it away
Receive a visual Design Sketchbook recording the options explored, the conclusions reached and the next steps discussed.

Your Design Sketchbook gives you a clear record to revisit, share with family or use to brief a builder, technician or another architect. You decide whether to take the ideas further, and when.

Half-day and full-day workshops are available, in your home or online, depending on the project. Before booking, Oliver will agree the scope, the information needed, what you’ll receive and the one-off fee.

When you come to House Doctor, you work directly with me.
I bring decades of experience across residential design, conservation, construction and building technology, alongside specialist façade work with Arup and Total Façade Solutions.
My particular strength is turning an idea into something you can see and understand. Using SketchUp, I can develop accurate models, explore alternatives with you and bring practical knowledge to the design as it evolves.
Good ideas develop through conversation. Seeing them in 3D makes that conversation much more useful.

Before we begin.
Do I need to be ready to build?
No. You can use a workshop to explore an idea, compare possibilities or think about a future change. There’s no pressure to proceed with a building project.
What information should I bring?
Any plans, measurements, photographs or ideas you already have are useful. Oliver will discuss what is needed beforehand, including whether measurements or a survey are required.
What does the Design Sketchbook include?
A clear visual record of the ideas developed: selected 3D views, design options and notes on the conclusions and next steps. The exact contents are agreed to suit your workshop.
Can I take the ideas to somebody else?
Yes. You’re welcome to take the design ideas to a builder, technician or another architect. There is no obligation to commission further work from Oliver.
Is the package ready for planning or construction?
The workshop provides concept design information. Planning applications, technical drawings, structural design and Building Regulations work may be needed before building; these are separate stages. Oliver will help you understand the likely next steps.
How much does it cost?
A one-off fee is agreed before you book, based on the scope and whether a half-day or full-day workshop is appropriate. Start with a conversation about your home and what you would like to explore.
